A Bar Association has hundreds of ongoing lawsuits, including in the courts, by unlawful prosecutor, an illegal act in which other professionals practice exclusive acts of lawyers and solicitors, which motivates a awareness campaign presented today.
The campaign “It has to be in Order” joins the Bar Association (AO) and the Order of Requesters and Executive Agents (OSAE) with objectives of raising awareness of the population for informed decision making when using legal services, providing a joint digital platform (must be in order.pt) to verify their registration in the Orders of these professionals before being hired.
OA data indicate that only this year there have been three cases referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP), courts, Directorate-General for Consumer or for appeals, 12 cases tried, with 135 cases still pending in these judicial or consumer protection bodies.
From 2025 to 2026, 501 cases were brought by an unlawful prosecutor in the OA, 358 were in the process of prior examination or investigation and 143 in the judicial or consumer rights bodies.
This year OA has already imposed 53 fines on professionals for unlawful prosecution.
Already data from OSAE indicate that in 2025 reached this Order 19 shares, a number that has increased to 33 in 2026, so far.
“ Between 2025 and 2026, the OSAE has already filed 12 criminal complaints and made five contributions to the Directorate-General for Consumer”, added OSAE to Lusa.
In a joint statement, OA and OSAE state that the initiative also aims to “make known the guarantees associated with registration in professional orders, including technical qualification, professional ethics duties, civil liability insurance and disciplinary supervision”.
“ In a context where social networks increase the visibility of services and facilitate contact with potential customers, the campaign alerts to the risks of resorting to those who are not able to practice legal acts. The appearance, popularity or ease of contact do not waive the confirmation of professional registration” warn both Orders.
The campaign that has as its motto “It’s not enough to look professional. It has to be in Order” is presented today at the Citizen's Store of Oranges, at 3pm.
The campaign will be visible in digital, institutional and public service spaces.
