Alcaraz, 23 years old, third ranked in the world ranking, imposed Shelton, who ranked fourth in the hierarchy of the ATP and was the third pre-designated in the French capital, by the partials of 7-6 (7-5) and 7-5, after an hour and 59 minutes of confrontation, winning the fifth title of the season and the 29th of the career.
Contrary to what happens in most other major tournaments, Alcaraz has passed alongside the success in Paris, where it debuted in 2021 and had never surpassed the quarter finals, but today it has even achieved glory, becoming only the second Spanish tennis player to win the title after David Ferrer in 2012.
The natural player of Murcia is leading an impressive end of season, after a period of four months in which he was away from the courts due to injury, snatching the second consecutive title in the male circuit on hard ground, since he had just won in Vienna.
After an initial set without breaks of service, which had to be decided at the ‘tie-break’, Alcaraz managed to impose twice on the withdrawal of Shelton in the second partial, against only one of the North American in his, ensuring for the ninth time the victory in a tournament with the Masters 1000 category (just surpassed by the four Grand Slam).
