“ Ohybrid attacks in Russia, which include drones loaded with explosives directed at airports, agents operating in our cities, cyber attacks on our networks and sabotage against our infrastructure, are a daily reality,” said German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, quoted by the newspaper “Bild am Sonntag”.
Dobrindt pointed out that, although these attacks are considered to increase, the country will be able to defend itself. To this end, his ministry has prepared specific plans to improve drone and cyberattack protection, as reported by this media.
In this way, the airspace over the main transport centres, airports, railway stations and the Berlin government district would be fully protected from drones through “new rapid intervention units,” the German news agency DPA reported.
According to the Ministry of Interior, companies that generate critical infrastructure, such as water supply, electricity and defense contractors, will also have legal permission to actively defend themselves against drones.
In this sense, a national protection shield, called “Cyberdome”, will be created, consisting of a dense network of digital sensors designed to detect and intercept attempts at cyberattacks, in the face of the hundreds of computer attacks against German companies verified in recent months.
