The great advantages (and disadvantages) of iPhone MagSafe technology

Even if it makes it easier to load your iPhone without using the USB-C input, MagSafe technology continues to present some disadvantages that may make it irrelevant. It was premiered in 2006 and for a moment it seemed that it could be extinguished in 2015.

OiPhone users know well that Apple's phone has many particularities and specificities that, even if they are seen as limitations for other mobile users, end up being iconic elements of these devices.

One of these particularities is MagSafe technology that, using magnets, seeks to optimize wireless charging on the iPhone. The technology actually didn't start on the phones but on the MacBook computers – back there in 2006.

In computers, MagSafe technology meant that it didn't have to introduce the charger connector. It was enough to bring the cable closer together and the magnets took care of the rest, also ensuring that no one would be able to throw the computer to the ground in case it stumbled onto the loading cable.

As useful as this technology was, the truth is it began to be discontinued in 2015 and many feared that this would have been the last time we saw MagSafe.

Less battery after updating your iPhone? Apple says “it’s normal”

Many iPhone users complain that after updating their phone – especially after an update as large as iOS 27 – they check a reduction in battery life. Apple says such behavior “is normal” and also “temporary”.

Well, we had to wait until 2020 for the iPhone 12 series to see Apple recover the technology as a way of optimizing wireless charging – allowing us to use the USB-C input on our phones for another purpose. Today we can see the technology MagSafe present on all iPhones sold by Apple, with technology also returning to some modern MacBook models.

Although many users of Apple products defend this charging technology and its advantages, MagSafe still has some disadvantages. Therefore, we decided to bring down the two major advantages and disadvantages we found with MagSafe technology on iPhones.

Advantages

  • The iPhone can be placed on a wireless charging bracket and kept on its nightstand, functioning as a conventional alarm clock;
  • While not directly related to loading, MagSafe technology on the iPhone can be used for other accessories (such as small card wallets, for example);

Disadvantages:

  • Wireless charging is (much) slower than conventional;
  • The MagSafe charger must be purchased separately as it is not included in the purchase of a new iPhone;
