O iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, today warned the United States of America against further attacks, at a time when speculation on a resumption of war in the Middle East is increasing.
“ If the enemies launch military or terrorist attacks again, it will be the armed forces of the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people who will determine the timing and conditions of their end,” says a statement attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei and published on their channel on Telegram.
Similarly, the Iranian Army also warned today that a new attack by the United States would only extend the war to a wider geographical area after Washington and Israel threatened to carry out further military operations.
The warning comes at a time when new diplomatic efforts are being made to avoid the resumption of hostilities.
“If the American President [Donald Trump] launches again on a regional adventure under pressure from Zionists [Israel] and in order to satisfy them, the flames of war will undoubtedly spread to a much wider geographical area,” said the spokesperson of the Iranian Army, Mohammad Akraminia, social network X.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also warned today that “the powerful Iranian armed forces will respond to anyone who dares to attack the people” of Iran.
On Friday, a delegation from Qatar arrived in the Iranian capital for talks with senior leaders from Iran.
Qatar and Pakistan play a mediating role in the efforts to resume the peace negotiations following a ceasefire agreement reached in April.
However, these initiatives have not yet made it possible to reach a lasting agreement.
The U.S. newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance had sent a letter to the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezai, at Trump's request, with the aim of relaunching negotiations and avoiding further US attacks.
Iran confirmed that it received the letter, but did not announce any response.
The United States will hold mid-term elections next Tuesday, which will determine the direction of the war, which has already become unpopular among US voters due to the sharp rise in energy prices following the conflict.
Last Tuesday, Israel held legislative elections, giving voters the opportunity to speak about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Likud of Netanyahu, with 27 out of 120 seats, won the elections, with his coalition obtaining 53 seats in Parliament (Knesset), but insufficient to govern, according to the final results of the vote.
The opposition party Yashar!, led by General Gadi Eisenkot, took second place, with 21 seats, while the coalition managed to reach the 53, also away from the 61 to get an absolute majority.
Under the leadership of Netanyahu, who promised to overthrow the Iranian Government, Israel and Iran engaged in a direct military confrontation after decades of war in the shadows.
The war in the Middle East was launched on 28 February following US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Tehran responded with attacks on Israel and US facilities throughout the region, while restricting maritime traffic in Ormuz's narrow strategy.
Meanwhile, the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports.
