O BE assured today that it presented to the Political Accounts and Finances Entity (ECFP) all party accounts and accused this entity of confusing fundraising with donations.

This position of the party, released in a statement, appears after this morning the President of the Entity of Accounts and Political Finances (ECFP), Carla Cardador, have stated that BE does not provide the identity of participants in fundraising, invoking the protection of personal data.

In a statement, BE refuses “a similar arrangement that has no basis”, distinguishing donations from adherents and non-adherents from fundraising in activities such as rallies or parties organised by the party.

The bloggers argue that, under the law in force, they “always handed over to the Political Accounts and Financing Entity the lists of donors who are not party adherents, complying with the entity’s recommendations, as well as the spirit of the party financing law.”.

In the case of donors who are adherents of the Left Block, “the receipts are and will always be available to be consulted by the Accounts and Political Financing Entity”, they stress.

“ The same applies to lists of participants in party activities involving fundraising, such as dinner-committees. This list is, and has always been, made available to the auditors of the Entity of Political Accounts and Finances for consultation, as the numerous audits to the accounts of the Left Block testify. And it will continue to be”, reads in the statement.

The party explains that in the latter case, “the presence in these activities does not presuppose consent for the public sharing of this data, unlike a donation to the party”.

“The Left Block thus guarantees full access to information without publicly exposing the personal data of those participating in its initiatives,” they argue.

The party coordinated by José Manuel Pureza points out that these procedures result from the understanding “which has been in force for many years by determination of the Accounts Entity”, citing a decision of ECFP sent to BE in 2007 which states that “nominative lists in fundraising actions are expendable, provided that the number of presences and the uniform behavior of revenue is duly identified”.

“ The accounts of the Left Bank were audited and submitted to the Political Accounts and Financing Entity, which operates with the Constitutional Court, in compliance with the law. Party funding is based on contributions from its adherents and small donors – citizens who live off their work – and not on donations of major economic interests, unlike other political forces. This will remain so, with full transparency”, they argue in the statement.

The party stresses that it raised before ECFP, “legitimate doubts about the link between the financing law and the General Data Protection Regulation”, but will continue to identify to ECFP the origin of all its donations.
