O omonia’s coach said today that his team will have a big challenge on Thursday, in front of Benfica, “a Champions League team”, playing the Europa League football.
At the press conference forecasting the meeting of the third league round, Norwegian Henning Berg says that in the club they are “enthusiastic for playing with Benfica”, after having had two good results, with victories over Celta de Vigo and Celje.
“ Now we will play with a team that is more of the Champions League, which historically has been one of the top three Portuguese teams and which last season won Real Madrid in the Champions League. Therefore, they are a top team, have many good players, changed eight players against AC Milan and won in the same”, he said.
The Norwegian coach assumes that “it’s going to be a great challenge and a great learning experience playing with a team of this level”, something that Omonia players don’t do every day.
“ We're gonna have to be good defensively against Benfica, they're fast on the attack, they make good counterattacks, but they can also be good when they're taking over and when they're pushing their opponents into their area. They have good individual quality, but also a good collective game ", analyzed.
Berg warned that Benfica arrives “fresher” because he did not have a game last weekend, but that the meeting with the “incarnate” will be “always very difficult”, considering that Omonia “is a good defensive team, with good collaboration among the players”.
“ I think most of the championship games are the team that dominates and we have more possession of the ball. In Europe it is more balanced or we have less ball, but we know how to make transitions, but we also like to develop our ball game”, he said.
However, for Berg, “the Benfica is a top team” that will push Omonia closer to its area and that will have more ball along the Thursday meeting, starting at 8:00 p.m.
“ That's the expectation, but let's see if we can be good at transitions, keep the ball and play a few more times. That would be good, but it will also depend on what Benfica allows us to do and how they enter this meeting ", concluded.
In a meeting between two teams that won the first two days, Benfica visits Omonia on Thursday, in a game that will have arbitration of the Belgian Jasper Vergoote.
