A Camara de Caminha will implement an educational project that uses the arts to promote social inclusion, creativity and respect for diversity among younger people, today revealed the municipality.
The pilot project will cover two classes of the 1st year of basic education, one in the Anchor Valley and another in the Coura Valley, in a statement, that municipality of the district of Viana do Castelo.
“If the results are positive and the goals set are achieved,” the city council said.
The initiative is the result of a partnership with the Yehudi Menuhin Portugal Association and the implementation of the MUS-E Program, which the municipality says is “a national and international reference in promoting social inclusion, respect for diversity and non-discrimination through the different artistic expressions”.
“Created under Yehudi Menuhin’s chancellor, the MUS-E Program uses different artistic languages, such as music, plastic arts, theater and body expression, in a school context, with the aim of developing creative, expressive, relational and communicative skills in children”, the Chamber describes.
Through art, the project “promotes social and educational inclusion, contributing to the prevention of situations of discrimination, exclusion and violence, as well as strengthening intercultural dialogue, equal opportunities and respect for human rights”, he adds.
The municipality also hopes to strengthen the articulation with the Grouping of Schools, artists and the local community, in addition to stimulating the participation of families in cultural activities.
On the other hand, it aims to “value the cultural heritage and the identity of the territory and contribute to an integrated municipal policy in the areas of education, culture and inclusion”.
The sessions have a weekly duration of 45 minutes per class, and training actions are also provided for teachers and workshops open to the participation of families and the local community.
