A canadian public television announced today the five finalists who compete for Canada's representation in the 2027 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, and it is up to the public to choose the artist who will lead the country's debut in the contest.

The candidates are William Cloutier, Josiane Comeau, Briannah Donolo, known artistically as Rêve, Nicholas Durocher, who acts under the name Talk, and Tyler Shaw, selected by a jury of experts in the Canadian music industry.

“ We are excited about the enormous interest shown by Canadian artists in the Eurovision Song Contest. Each of the five finalists has their own style and everyone has an exceptional talent,” said CBC’s Executive Vice President Douglas Smith in a statement.

The responsible added that, regardless of the choice of Canadians, the country will be represented by “an extraordinary voice” in its first participation in the international competition.

The public vote began today, through the digital platform of the BCC, where the performances of the five candidates are available, and extends until November 5, at 23:59 p.m. on the Pacific coast (November 7:59, 6 in Lisbon), each participant being able to vote up to ten times during the established period.

The result of the vote will be announced by December, becoming known the first Canadian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest, whose next edition is scheduled for May 2027 in Bulgaria.

The selection process received 325 applications between August 31 and September 09, later evaluated by the music teams of CBC/Radio-Canada, which reduced the number of competitors to 15 before the selection of the five finalists.

The final selection took place at a meeting held in Toronto on October 8, with the participation of five professionals from the music industry and the executive vice presidents of CBC and Radio-Canada.

Among the criteria considered were vocal quality, artistic experience, presence on stage, musical vision, availability of candidates and the ability to present a competitive performance before an international audience.

Among the finalists is William Cloutier, singer and composer of Quebec, winner of the TV competition Star Académie in 2021, who later participated in the musical Starmania, with more than 360 performances in Europe and Canada.

Also from Quebec, Josiane Comeau, born Dieppe, in New Brunswick Province, won the La Voix program in 2020 and released, in March 2026, the debut album Take Care, combining themes played in French and English.

Singer Rêve, born in Montreal and currently based in Toronto, features a career linked to pop and dance music, having won a Juno prize and accumulated over 175 million reproductions on digital platforms since its debut in 2021.

The musician Talk, born in Otava, gained international projection with the theme Run Away to Mars, released in 2021, and won in 2024 the Juno award as artist revelation of the year, after acting in festivals such as Lollapalooza and Osheaga.

The fifth finalist, Tyler Shaw, singer, producer and actor from Vancouver, began his record career in 2012 and achieved international projection with his version of Love You Still, accumulating hundreds of millions of reproductions and performing the first European tour in 2026.

“ Millions of people, especially young people, follow each year the Eurovision Song Contest through digital platforms, in addition to the final broadcast live in 12 countries,” said Radio-Canada Executive Vice President Dany Meloul.

According to the person responsible, Canadian participation represents an opportunity to promote the country's musical talent internationally, through one of the largest television events dedicated to music.

The choice of the representative will be exclusively in the hands of the public, after a first phase conducted by professionals in the music sector, in a process that aims to ensure a competitive representation at Canada's premiere at the festival.

The 2027 edition will mark Canada's first participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, a competition organised by the European Broadcasting Union, which traditionally brings together European countries and some participants from other regions of the world.

Although Canada first participated in the competition in 2027, Canadian singer Céline Dion, born in Quebec, won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 in Dublin, Ireland, representing Switzerland, which invited her to play the theme “Ne partez pas sans moi”, winning first place with 137 points, just one more than the UK.
