A french consumer confidence has declined in October to the lowest level since June 2013 and far below the long-term average, today announced the French national statistical institute (INSEE).

The indicator that summarizes the results of monthly surveys conducted with households, dropped to 80 points, minus five points than in September, advanced the INSEE in a statement, cited by the EFE, in which it recalls that 100 points corresponds to the long-term average.

The reason for the decline lies in the opinion expressed by the respondents on the perception of their past and future personal financial situation, which has shown a clear deterioration. In particular with regard to future prospects, the statistical institute stressed.

In addition, the proportion of families who consider it appropriate to make important purchases in the current situation has retreated and moved away from their long-term average.

Although in October the percentage of those who consider it time to save was reduced, it remained clearly above the long-term average.

These data are published at a time when France has been facing several protests for weeks against rising cost of living and conditions in schools.

The country is in a very delicate financial situation, with a public debt under pressure from the markets, which has resulted in a strong increase in interest rates and the risk premium, which has been at the highest levels since 2012, one of the critical moments of the financial crisis.
