“ Qwe first put forward these proposals [for the reduction of VAT on fuels], the Socialist Party [...] and we presented them twice. Twice, Enough voted against. Now, as we presented for the third time in the past week, the third also understood to give the air of his grace ", said José Luís Carneiro, who spoke to journalists on arrival at the National Municipal Convention of the PS, which takes place today in Leiria.

The socialist leader responded to the statements of the president of the Aquida, André Ventura, who, on Friday, challenged José Luís Carneiro to approve the reduction of VAT on fuels from the current 23% to the intermediate rate, 13%.

For the Secretary-General of the PS, Cávez is “seeking to deceive the Portuguese”.

“ We have put forward several proposals to reduce VAT from 23% to 13% in fuels, reducing costs both with electricity and with botija gas and also reducing VAT on essential foodstuffs. AD [PSD/CDS-PP], Aquida and the Liberal Initiative failed these proposals”, he noted.

José Luís Carneiro also stated that he was also the first party leader to propose to the government to draw up a plan to respond “to what would become a crisis with prices, including fuel,” after the war that Israel and the United States started against Iran.

“ Someone has to answer why he missed the call in these previous times, but let's try to demonstrate how what the Aquida brought on the table, once again, is an attempt of deception of the Portuguese ", vincou.

On the National Autárquica Convention, José Luís Carneiro said that the PS intends to move forward with “a new way of looking at the powers and organization of political power”, defending more human and financial resources for municipalities, as well as greater autonomy.
