O CDS-PP today argued that the Madeira Budget for 2027 should include measures aimed at increasing wages, improvements in the housing and education sectors, as well as the strengthening of elderly care.

“ We recalled, and it seems to us that it was well received by the executive, the need to update the remuneration tables of the public service,” said the Christian Democratic leader Vasco Marcial, stressing that the party also advocates extending the insularity allowance to the private sector and creating a reference salary for qualified young people.

Vasco Marcial spoke to journalists after an audience with the Regional Secretary of Finance, Duarte Freitas, in Funchal, in preparation for the proposal for the Budget of the Autonomous Region of Madeira for 2027.

The insular ruler receives the representatives of the six parties with a seat in the regional parliament today, having heard the IL, and meetings are still scheduled with Aça, PS, JPP and PSD.

The CDS-PP, which has an elected member of the Legislative Assembly and supports the Regional Government in coalition with the PSD, argues that the next regional budget should include funds for the construction of 300 new housing, reinforcing the offer against the about 800 already built under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and the 160 currently under construction with regional funds.

On the other hand, the Christian Democrats propose the creation of a guarantee fund for the landlord.

Vasco Marcial explained that it is necessary to “give the landlords more confidence and security”, so that they can put more housing in the rental market.

In relation to education, the CDS-PP expects measures to be implemented to encourage the movement and fixation of teachers on the northern coast of the island, the area of the autonomous region with the lowest population.

As for the elderly, Vasco Marcial said that the party wants to ensure teleassistance services for elderly people living alone or alone.

The Madeira budget in force this year, amounting to EUR 2,329 million, was approved on December 17, 2025, in a final vote overall, with the votes in favour of the PSD/CDS-PP majority, against JPP, PS and Arrive and abstaining from IL.

The Investment Plan of the Government of Madeira, amounting to 1,002 million euros, was also approved by a majority, with the votes in favour of PSD/CDS-PP, against the PS and the abstention of JPP, Achega and IL.
