C100 people gathered today in Viseu in a demonstration for the right to housing, because "the problem is transversal" to the whole country and in solidarity with the resistance of Lisbon and Porto.

The popular assembly was organized by the Já Marchavas Platform and, on Formosa street, a pedestrian ending in Rossio, a little over 100 people linked to various associations that are part of the platform and ordinary citizens joined.

"I am a citizen, without any partisan or even associative ties. I join precisely in protest and to demand and remember the serious moment that we are going through and the struggle for our rights and housing," Paula Gonçalves told journalists.

This Viseense citizen, she has demarcated herself from 'any link to parties', but has assumed her 'should as a citizen', because 'house prices have risen substantially and Viseu does not escape the rule'.

"The prices of housing rise, the cost of living rises and the wages of people do not, and this is also a problem, because wages are stagnant, which worsens even more," said Paula Gonçalves.

One of the moderators of the assembly was Joana Gomes who presented three documents to the vote, all unanimously approved, and one of them was a vote of solidarity with the protesters for the right to housing and of Repudio to repression.

The vote highlights “all protesters” who have been on the streets in the country, more specifically in Porto and Lisbon, and who “have maintained daily the struggle for the right to housing”, recognizing and welcoming “the resistance of those who have been camped in the streets, giving their time, energy and their presence to a struggle that is of all”.

‘Repudiate any repressive, disproportionate or intimidating action by the authorities against peaceful demonstrators, demanding respect for the constitutional right to expression and freedom of expression’, read.

The same document called for 'respect for the right to demonstration and popular organisation without intimidation, violence or unjustified restrictions'.

Another document approved was to demand the ‘repeal of the new rental law; the end of abusive evictions, the end of the purchase of property by vulture funds and the fight against property speculation’.

As well as the requirement for a ‘significant increase in the public housing park, the recovery of vacant buildings for housing purposes and the imposition of maximum rent ceilings’.

The third document approved concerned the call for the national demonstration “House to live” scheduled for November 14.
