O pCP Secretary-General Paulo Raimundo considered, this Thursday, that it is wrong not to impose a ceiling on fuel prices, since, contrary to what the Government of Luís Montenegro defends, “the population is already a whole special sector”.

“ We are faced with a brutal increase in fuel, food prices, and a large scale. As if this were not little, there comes a new increase in interest rates, which implies even more in the costs of housing ", contextualized Paulo Raimundo, in the margin of the action " Break with injustices – Novo Rumo para Portugal. A better life”, which takes place at Cais do Sodré in Lisbon.

The Communist argued that, “while each of us is paying more and more for food, fuel, housing, tolls, there are those who have, in the midst of this misfortune, never seen profits, as is the case of Galp, banking, big distribution”, so “there is something wrong here”.

“ Our action today is also against injustice in the distribution of wealth that is created. What is the reality in the life of each of us? It's the ever shorter salary for such a big month and it's the pension that's not enough. Therefore, we need to resolve this: end injustice, better distribute wealth, increase wages and pensions, and contain the brutal increase in the cost of living ", defended.

From the perspective of the leader of the CFP, the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, “certainly thinks that we are not yet in a state sufficient to take the measures that are imposed”, but “you are mistaken and the people are rightly outraged and angry and are responding to you”.

“The population is already a whole special sector,” he said, referring to the policy implemented by the Executive, which is based on “helping the sectors that need most and not doing general help”.

“ Apparently, [the minister] feels that the increase in the cost of living is not at the level she feels should be. It's always later. Everything that is to make life easier for the workers, for the populations, everything that is to contain the enormous profits of the Galps of this country is always for later. Everything that is to tighten the life of those who work is always for yesterday ", lamented.

It should be noted that Maria da Graça Carvalho announced on Monday that the government is preparing new support for the transport of goods, firefighters, social sector and taxis, in order to compensate for the impact of fuel rises. The responsible said, however, that imposing a ceiling on fuel prices is an “exceptional and last resort” because it may disturb the functioning of the market.
