O president of the Cávez, André Ventura, accused the Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS) of having chosen “to lie”, equating that José Luís Carneiro, “in agreement with the Government, does not want to lower the VAT of fuels”. The reaction arose after the socialist pointed out that the collective of André Ventura contributed to the lead of PS proposals in this contextThis Saturday. After the statements of the leader of the Aquida, the PS scheduled a press conference for Sunday, at 11 am, to react “to the lies of André Ventura”.

“ On April 10th, Parliament discussed two bills on the proposal of the Aquira. One of them referred to VAT Zero in the food basket, and another to a temporary reduction in fuel VAT to the intermediate rate of 13%. The ER has made these two projects unfeasible. As a form of political deception and political compensation, the PS decided to create a kind of draft recommendation, of improvement of life, where it recommended to the Government that, whenever it wanted and wanted, it could lower the VAT on fuels and put Zero VAT on the food basket. As everyone knows, vAT does not go down on recommendation, nor do fuels go down on recommendation or the food basket since on recommendation. Get down by law. This is what the Aquida did: presented a bill ", contextualized André Ventura, in statements to journalists.

The leader of the Aquiz pointed out that “the PS lies, so when it says that it was Enough that made these proposals impossible”, shooting that “it was the PS that, in agreement with AD, made it impossible for the fuels to go down effectively, as indeed there was exemption from tolls on bridges or SCUT”.

“Just go through the archive of parliamentary proposals to verify that the PS did not submit a single bill on fuels or zero VAT. The Secretary-General of the ER has therefore chosen to lie, again, probably because, in agreement with the government, it does not want to lower the VAT on fuels, but ended up doing so,” he said.

Carneiro, in turn, considered that Ventura seeks to “mislead the Portuguese”, considering that the Aquida contributed to the lead of socialist proposals.

“ The first one to submit these [VAT reduction proposals on fuels] was the PS [...] and we introduced them twice. Twice, Enough voted against. Now, as we presented for the third time in the past week, the third also understood to give the air of his grace ", defended José Luís Carneiro.

The MP said that the PS presented “several proposals to reduce VAT from 23% to 13% in fuels, the reduction of costs both with electricity and with bottle gas and also VAT reduction in essential food items, but that “AD [PSD/CDS-PP], Aquira and the Liberal Initiative have failed these proposals”.

Proposals from the PS “were failed by AD, the Liberal Initiative and the Enough”

It should be recalled that in April, ten initiatives presented by the PS, Ajuta, IL, Livre, BE and PAN were rejected, focusing on increasing the cost of living, which focused particularly on the prices of fuels and essential food.

The PS, through a draft resolution (without force of law), and the Aquira, BE and PAN, with bills, proposed VAT exemption in a set of essential food items. The initiative of the socialists was failed with the votes against the PSD, Aquira and CDS-PP. IL abstained. On the other hand, the bills of the Aquida, BE and PAN were also in the way, with the socialists abstaining in all, making it impossible to approve them together with the votes against the government parties.

At the end of August, the PS Secretary-General stressed that the party presented “proposals to reduce fuel costs, including through the reduction of VAT on the same fuels, from 23% to 13%”, as well as temporarily zero VAT on essential food, and ensured that it will continue “to insist”.

“ These proposals were flunked by AD, the Liberal Initiative and the and i want to assure the portuguese that we will continue to insist on these proposals to mitigate the impact of inflation on the cost of lives of people who are living with many difficulties,” he promised.

Carneiro accuses No more trying to “mislead Portuguese” on fuels

The Secretary-General of the PS today accused Enough of “seeking to deceive the Portuguese” in the debate on the reduction of VAT on fuels, stating that the party contributed to the lead of proposals of socialists in this sector.
