Dacia's boldest electric concept closer to being reality?

Last year, Dacia revealed what is probably its most “out of the box” proposal – the Hipster Concept. Recently, patent images of the model appeared in the foreign press.

A Dacia patented the one who might be his most important model “outside the box” to date – the Hipster, revealed last year as a conceptual vehicle. It is a possible utility model that proposes four places in just three meters long.

In recent days, AutoWeek published patent images. Similar to the concept, they reveal a car with very angular lines, almost like a cube, very compact and at the same time robust. The roof reproduces the Romanian brand logo of the Renault Group.

The images concerned point to a pixel-shaped front light signature inserted in a framed section where the logo should also be placed. Design of exterior rearview mirrors differs from concept presented last year, as well as the bumpers and in particular the trunk door – which opens to the left, instead of opening in two halves (glass up, door down).

If Dacia Hipster is really going to be a production model, it's still not something that's officially known. At the beginning of the year, Dacia's executive director Katrin Adt was enthusiastic about the prospects of producing Hipster, but stressed that there was still no decision: “As soon as we decide, it takes only a year and a half of development,” Auto Infos said.

The same organ wrote at the time that i was planning for production to start next year. The patent sketches seem closer to a model to reach the market, but patents do not always translate into products that advance into production.

If it does, this imposing little electric car can fit into the M1E category of accessible models “Made in Europe”, announced by the European Union at the end of 2025. It may therefore be the cheapest electric Dacia ever, with French L’Automobile Magazine pointing to the possibility of staying at the level of 15 thousand euros.

Dacia “Sales Champion” in Europe will also be electric

The “sales champion” Dacia Sandero and Sandero Stepway arrived in 2008 and, 20 years later, will also be 100 percent electric – within the framework of the Romanian brand electrification strategy of Renault Group.
