North Korea today rejected a resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that calls for the denuclearisation of the country, stating that it will have no impact on its position to detain nuclear weapons, state agency KCNA said.

“Fechoing our eyes to the threat and nuclear proliferation of the United States and other hostile forces, while requiring North Korea to renounce its nuclear weapons, is tantamount to asking us to renounce our own existence and our right to live,” said Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, in a statement.
The resolution was adopted on Thursday during the 70th IAEA General Conference in Vienna.
The text urges North Korea to abandon fully, verifiably and irreversibly its nuclear weapons and programmes and to cease all nuclear activities as well as the expansion of fissile material production facilities, including through enrichment and reprocessing.
The requirements of the IAEA are in line with the report released in August by the body, which documents a further expansion of the North Korean nuclear programme, including the construction of a second uranium enrichment facility in Yongbyon.
Kim Yojong recalled that his country abandoned the IAEA in 1994 and accused the agency of ignoring the United States' extended deterrence from South Korea and Japan as well as South Korean plans to acquire nuclear-powered submarines.
“To ensure that the credibility of the nuclear force is not jeopardised under any circumstances is the most important issue for North Korea’s national security, which is constantly exposed to the nuclear threat of hostile forces,” he added.
The North Korean leader had already reaffirmed on Thursday in another statement that North Korea’s nuclear status is “absolute and irreversible”.
