“ Uthe Russian delegation will participate in the meeting of the Energy Ministers in the framework of the US G20 Presidency in Houston from 14 to 16 September”, indicated at Telegram Marat Berdyev, ambassador responsible for monitoring the G20 themes.
According to AFP, Berdyev did not specify the identity of the Russian participants, merely indicating that they will be “representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Natural Resources”.
“ Russian ideas on the variability of energy balances, technological neutrality, the role of fossil fuels in general, natural gas and nuclear energy for peaceful purposes are increasingly sought,” the diplomat assured.
The announcement comes after the “malaise” caused by the presence of Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov at the G20 Financial meeting in early September in Asheville, southern United States, according to the Canadian counterpart François-Philippe Champagne, in an interview with AFP.
Usually considered ‘persona non grata’ by the Western Allied countries of Ukraine, Siluanov sat, at Washington’s invitation, around the large oval table that gathered dozens of delegates. He also had the opportunity to meet personally with the American counterpart, Scott Bessent.
“This is not the time to normalise Russia or Russia’s presence in this type of meeting,” European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis later said.
The United States is this year the organizers of a series of G20 meetings, which brings together major world economies such as China, India, Japan and France.
The last big meeting will bring together the heads of state in December, in a golf complex owned by Donald Trump, Miami, Florida.
