Deight men, 27 and 42 years old, were in custody after being arrested, on Friday, at the University Pole of Porto in a decommissioning operation of a “relevant drug trafficking network”, PSP reported today.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Command of the PSP describes that it conducted a police operation to combat drug trafficking, which culminated in the arrest of two men and the seizure of more than 10,600 doses of drugs.

Focusing “especially” on the neighborhood of S. Tomé, in Paranhos, a zone considered of “high relevance” due to its proximity to the University Pole, this operation was the result of a criminal investigation, with the PSP conducting three house searches and a non-house search.

Besides Porto, the operation also took place in Valongo.

The Porto PSP stresses that “the dismantling of this relevant network represents another severe blow against drug trafficking in the Porto Metropolitan Area, with special impact on the parish of Paranhos”.

This operation resulted in the seizure of 10,250 doses of cannabis (resina/haxixe), as well as 403 doses of cannabis (flowered or fruity leaves and summities), 1,460 euros in cash, two motorcycles, three mobile phones, a digital scale, a motorcycle helmet, a pair of motorcycle gloves and another “paraphernalia of objects related to the crime in question”, reads the statement.

The two men were present at the Court of Criminal Instruction of the District of Porto, being applied to them the most severe measure of coercion: preventive imprisonment.
