Sthe Secretary of State for Higher Education of Angola, Eugenio Alves da Silva, for the new academic year 283,500 vacancies were authorized, namely 21,700 for public institutions of higher education and the rest for private institutions.

In statements to Radio Nacional de Angola, the governor noted that the reduction of 50,000 vacancies compared to the year 2025/26 resulted from the process of external evaluation and accreditation that suspended, in April 2025, more than 250 courses in public and private universities “for lack of conditions”.

“ Undoubtedly, the results of external evaluation and accreditation of courses – promoted by the National Institute of Evaluation, Accreditation and Recognition of Higher Education Studies – had an impact on the number of vacancies available”, said the responsible.

This is because, he observed, higher education has ceased “to count on courses that, because of non-accreditation, cannot open vacancies, cannot offer, cannot admit students to the next academic year”.

The external evaluation and accreditation of courses for the Secretary of State for Higher Education is a “structural measure” to promote the improvement of the quality of training, quality of courses and the quality of the performance of institutions.

The network of higher education institutions in Angola consists of 31 public and 75 private institutions throughout the country's 21 provinces. These offer 1,305 courses.

Eugenio Alves da Silva also pointed out that the demand for vacancies has been very high in public institutions, where a vacancy is disputed by five candidates.

On the other hand, it ensured that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation is overseeing, at this stage, the institutions of this teaching subsystem to prevent the admission of students to suspended courses.

In relation to teachers, the Secretary of State ensured “continuous bet” on their graduate qualification, highlighting that the subsystem of higher education has 1,300 professors, 12% PhDs, 40% master’s and 48% graduates.

“ We want to reverse this framework to increase the percentage of graduate teachers, because this is also a quality factor ", concluded.

Higher education classes in Angola start on October 5th. The official opening of the academic year is scheduled for October 2.
