A u.S. Democrat elected by Michigan Haley Stevens today publicly supported the Republican candidate for the Senate in the mid-term elections, after tensions with the Democrats, Abdul El-Sayed, a gesture already applauded by President Donald Trump.
In a video published on social network X, two days from the election, Stevens announced his “support for Mike Rogers for the U.S. Senate”, appearing alongside him at a mass in an African-American church.
Stevens, who is a member of the House of Representatives, was defeated by El-Sayed by a short margin in the Democratic primary for the Senate, and the two have been at odds for several days on US policy towards Israel.
On Saturday, the progressive candidate with pro-Palestinian positions said he did not want the MP to attend a campaign event scheduled for today, stating that he did not “want distractions”.
In the video published today, Stevens said he had no “place in Abdul’s campaign” and accused the candidate of promoting “hate” speeches.

Asked about the decision to support his rival, El-Sayed, who could become the first Muslim senator in the United States, said he was not “thinking about Haley Stevens”, adding that he was “less interested in politics than in public policies.”.
The American President, Republican Donald Trump, has already reacted on his network, Truth Social.
“Wow, that’s ENORMOUS!”, he commented.
“Haley said what few people dare to say,” she continued, praising the representative’s “loyalty” and “heart” and highlighting her influence on Jewish and African-American voters.
The polls give El-Sayed a slight advantage over Republican Mike Rogers.
Maintaining this chair is crucial for the Democratic Party to secure the majority in the Senate in the last two years of Trump's second term.
The votes of the traditionally democratic African American and Jewish communities of Michigan can prove decisive.
The mid-term elections in the United States, held in the middle of the presidential term, serve to renew all 435 seats of the House of Representatives (low House of Congress) and about one third (35) of the 100 seats of the Senate (high House).
Today, Republicans control both cameras.
The loss of at least one of the chambers would hinder the adoption of Trump's legislative agenda during the last two years of the mandate and would allow Democrats to launch parliamentary investigations into the administration.
