Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for the U.S. Central Command (Centcom), said Iranian boats “have recently tried to take possession of an unmanned U.S. surface vessel,” but failed after a “torn response” from the military.

Iranian state media reported on Monday that two fishing boats were attacked in the province of Hormozgan, on the southern coast of Iran, and that several fishermen were missing, according to a provincial authority.

This is the latest episode of hostilities in a conflict that has lasted for more than six months, with both sides fighting for control of the Strait of Ormuz.

In recent weeks, the US has managed to reduce Iranian dominance over this strategic energy transport corridor.

However, the impact of this conflict raised oil and gasoline prices, creating political problems for President Donald Trump and his Republican Party before the mid-term legislative elections in November.

“ The price of oil will fall as soon as the military conflict with Iran ends, and this will not take long,” Trump said in a social media publication on Monday.

The global oil markets were further shaken by the increased attacks by the Houthi rebels in Yemen, supported by Iran, on Saudi Arabia’s maritime transport infrastructure and routes.

This new front in the Middle East conflict interrupted or damaged alternative routes used by Saudi Arabia to drain its oil to the world.

Among the incidents, there was an attack days ago that damaged the country's largest pipeline, as well as advances that strengthened the houthi's ability to block Saudi oil exports from the Red Sea.
