The head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lee Zeldin, is expected to make the announcement today during a meeting of the Energy Ministers of the G20 International Cooperation Forum in Houston in the United States, New York Times and Bloomberg news agency, citing well-known sources.
According to the Times, power plants will remain subject to certain limitations regarding mercury, arsenic, and other contaminants.
Coal is the fuel that emits the highest levels of greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming.
President Donald Trump often classifies climate change caused by human activity as a “farse.”.
Since his return to the White House in January 2025, his government has multiplied the measures for fossil energy, flexibilising, in particular, various emission standards for pollutants.
At the beginning of the year, the government also repealed the basic text for combating greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.
