O the euro rose slightly today for the second consecutive session, remaining at the level of $1.12, despite the rise in oil prices, as the us currency is still under pressure.
At 6 p.m. (Lisbon time), the euro was worth $1,1239, when on Wednesday, at the same time, it negotiated at $1,1235.
However, the euro fell against the pound and compared to the yen.
The European Central Bank (ECB) has today set the euro reference exchange at $1,1224.
In the United States, weekly applications for unemployment benefits fell by 6,000 last week, totaling 189,000 applications.
The euro has remained above $1.12 today, but “the prospects continue to depend largely on the interaction between the monetary squeeze promoted by the main central banks, geopolitical risks and political tensions in the euro area,” said Roberto Mialich, UniCredit’s exchange rate analyst, quoted by the EFE agency.
In view of this, the person responsible considers that “political factors throughout the euro area — including the elections in Spain on 29 November and the French presidential elections in spring 2027 — are likely to continue to weigh on the euro or at least limit its potential for recovery in the coming quarters.”.
“ The markets concluded that it will increase pressure on the White House to put an end to the war with Iran — a perception reinforced by the statements of Vice President (J.D.) Vance, who attributed to the war the Republican losses, and President Trump, who said he had no immediate plans to carry out new attacks,” said Monex analysts.
Brent's barrel price, a reference price for European imports, fell on Wednesday to $93, a minimum since the beginning of September, however, today rose to $96.
