Quem is certified (low) to provide assistance to mother, father, husband/wife or partner/ ed you are not entitled to social security benefits, explains the Social Security Institute (ISS), in a practical guide on the subject.

“ When people are short for family care, if they are a parent (e.g. grandmother, grandfather, father, mother-in-law, stepfather or stepmother) or second-line (brothers, sister-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law), or for assistance to husband/wife or partner-in-law, the purpose of the certificate of incapacity for work is only to justify absence from the employer, with no social security allowance“, can be read in the document released.

Different is the case of the discharge for child care, since workers in these situations are entitled, if they meet the requirements, to social security support.

In practice, the Child Care Grant is a cash-paid support to people who lack work to provide urgent and necessary assistance to their children (biological, adopted or their husband/wife/partner/a), in case of illness or accident, according to Social Security.

Lower for parent, brother or partner assistance: Is there a right to support?

When people are on leave for assistance to ascending relatives – grandmother, grandfather, father, mother-in-law, mother-in-law, stepfather or stepmother – or in second collateral line – brothers, sister-in-law or sister-in-law – or for assistance to husband/wife or partner-in-law there is no right to any social security allowance.

Sickness allowance: What is it?

It is a “payment paid in cash to compensate for the loss of income for workers who cannot work temporarily because they are sick”.

Social Security explains that “disease is any condition that causes incapacity for work, not arising from professional causes or from acts of third parties entitled to compensation”.

You have the right to meet all of the following conditions::

  • have a Temporary Disability Certificate (ITC/Low)(1) passed by a public, private and social health care provider physician, including primary health care, drug addiction prevention and treatment services, and hospital health care, including emergency services;
  • comply with the guarantee period;
  • comply with the professionality index(2), unless you are an independent and maritime worker covered by the voluntary social insurance scheme.
  • have the contribution situation settled on the date on which you become entitled to the allowance if you are an independent worker or are covered by the voluntary social security scheme.
