Farioli rejects crisis: “For 15 months, FC Porto lost with Inter Miami”

Athe three-day cable, FC Porto continues without adding a single point, in the league phase of the Champions League, and this Tuesday, in the press conference that followed the latest defeat, before the PSV, in the middle of the Dragon Stadium, by 0-1, Francesco Farioli assumed that the scenario is far from being the best.

“This evening’s analysis is quite simple. We had two moments, at the beginning of the game, where we could have done the 1-0. After that, we had a duel and open field game against a very mobile team that, of course, can create problems. In the first part, we felt many difficulties ", started by affirming.

“However, we also had moments when we recovered the ball and, being the opponent too exposed, we could have scored. It's part of the game, but we can't make it happen. In the second part, the dynamics changed completely. We created enough, in my opinion, to justify a different result”, he continued.

“ However, this is the third time, after a Champions League game, that I say we deserved more than zero points. That's something that frustrates us all. The effort was there, but the quality may not have been necessary. We know that this Champions League is a totally different reality from the Europe League”, he added.

Still, the Italian coach recalled that “two years ago” that the blues and whites were not in the million - dollar race: “If we believe that in 15 months we would be able to close our entire path of evolution and progression, I think we are a little far from reality. 15 months ago, the team returned from the United States after losing against Inter Miami and stalling against an Egyptian team, so we must be consistent with the process we are in.”.

Francesco Farioli still rejected the idea that dragons are in crisis: “It is very interesting to talk about crisis in a team that is first in the championship, with eight wins in eight games and a Classic won a few weeks ago. It is a very peculiar way to formulate the question”.

“I would say we want more. In a colder assessment, it is easy to imagine that we deserve at least a couple more points. Without being too optimistic, two more points would be perfectly within our reach. As we did not conquer them, there are responsibilities to take on ", reflected.

“ As responsible, I know there are things we need to do better. But, as I said before, we have made a huge leap in terms of demand in the last 15 months. To believe that you can undo the distance to the top of Europe in just 15 months is an overly optimistic thought,” he added.

Why does FC Porto suffer so much?

After the accounts, this was already the seventh consecutive game in which FC Porto suffered goals, the worst sequence since Francesco Farioli arrived at the club. Challenged to explain this phenomenon, the technician pointed out “different reasons”: “One of them is about the quality of opponents, since the level is higher and it is normal to face difficulties”.

“ On the other hand, there were moments in the game when we suffered goals in scenarios we could have avoided. We are far from perfect and we have aspects to work on”, concluded, before journalists, after whistling that the team was targeted by the supporters themselves.
