Oreinforced Philadelphia 76ers “broken” on Tuesday the New York Knicks champions’ party by winning in Madison Square Garden by 106-100, on the first day of edition 2026/27 of the American Basketball League (NBA).
The night began at a party, with the surrender of the rings to the champions and the ascent to the Garden roof of the title flag of the last season, but then the Knicks did not best initiate the defense of the scepter, the third and first since 1973.
Mike Brown's formation began well, winning the first two periods (25-23 and 33-31), to get halfway ahead (58-54), but the third period (18-29) inclined the meeting to the side of the outsiders, who held out in the room (24-23).
Tyrese Maxey, with 28 points, commanded the Sixers, aided by luxury reinforcements Jaylen Brown (ex-Boston Celtics), author of 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and veteran LeBron James (ex-Los Angeles Lakers), who began his 24th season with 14 points, nine highlights and seven assists.
It also highlights the 13 points, 11 points and six points of Joel Embiid, and the alternates Anfernee Simons (13 points) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (10), and the nine of VJ Edgecombe were also important.
In the formation of the house, the best was Karl-Anthony Towns, with 19 points and 12 caveats, while Jalen Brunson, the ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP) of the late 2025/26, was the best scorer, with 21, but only hit six of 19 field shots.
Josh Hart, with 14 points and seven points, and alternate Andre Drummond, with 12 points and 14 points, were also in good shape in the championship champions.
