A 20th edition will be for good? FC Porto takes action, on the night of Wednesday, in the League Cup, receiving the Academic of Viseu in the final rooms. The team led by Francesco Farioli has not yet threatened any title in the competition and at the last season even failed to attend the four finals.
The sports coach said he attached the same importance to all the games, regardless of the competitions, but assumed the need to manage the physical condition of the players, at a time of greater tightness in the calendar.
For his part, the Academic of Viseu goes to the Dragon Stadium to fight for victory, but Bruno Pinheiro confirmed that he will have to make many changes in the eleven, because “he had less of a day’s rest than FC Porto”.
Sérgio Guelho is the referee appointed to direct the match between FC Porto and Académico de Viseu, whose kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. The judge of the Guard Football Association will have as assistants André Pontes and José Mira, Flávio Jesus being the fourth referee. The VAR will be Manuel Oliveira, assisted by Tiago Leandro.
Coaches in direct speech
Francesco Farioli
Academic motivates alert: “The game in the I League against Academic was already complicated and after that had a fantastic sequence of results. You said a lot of good words about them, and they're proving you right. The results are proof of that. Tomorrow will be a different game, but we must be prepared for what the game will be to go with everything”.
Opportunities for the least-used?: “The calendar will be very demanding. We know this is the pattern of a big club. In this case it is a different competition and we are aware of the importance of the cohesion of the group and have everyone ready to play. We had very good examples. Martim was injured before the Ave River and Nehuén played and scored. In the last game, Oskar had a problem, Borja came in and decided. Everyone has to be prepared to take the opportunity. Players will have to show their qualities.”.
Bruno Pinheiro
Moved on eleven: “ We're gonna have a lot of changes. We had a day less rest than FC Porto. We're still recovering athletes, so we have a sense of who's more or less available. We have game on Sunday, with the Ave River [for the I League]. We have to manage. We don't want to risk injuries. We believe in the remaining players of the squad.”.
Ambition in the League Cup, but.. “ We would really like to win the League Cup and we want to win it. ... It's a legitimate ambition to be in a race and want to win it, but the biggest focus is the championship. It's many years out of the I League. We want to ensure maintenance as soon as possible, to ensure better conditions to aim for more in the future, being competitive not only in one test, but in two or three”.
