The European Commission then granted Alphabet a 60-day period to comply with European laws, with the technological giant changing the way the results are presented on Google. However, it seems that Mountain View technology was not satisfied with the change.
“To meet the requirements of the Digital Markets Act, we are making significant changes to [Google] Search in Europe”, explained to Reuters senior Vice President of Knowledge and Information, Nick Fox. “ These changes harm the user experience in Europe – benefiting online intermediaries at the expense of local businesses and removing useful features that people use daily. Users outside the European Union will not be affected by these changes”.
Trump was also dissatisfied
Shortly after the European Commission announced the decision to fine Google, it was announced by the US that an investigation on European Union trade practices would be opened, claiming that billions of dollars have already been unfairly applied in fines against Google, Apple and other US technology giants.
In a long social media publication, Trump said that he had already alerted the EU to his practice of fineing US technology companies.
He quoted Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon and other technological giants.
“The United States of America is not a ‘COFRE’ for Europe, nor will we allow it to be!”, said Trump, adding that his publication should serve as a warning for an immediate commercial investigation “about the practice of ‘ROUBAR’ US companies and consequently the American taxpayer”.
“The European Union will pay a very high price for this illegal and highly unethical conduct, to which I have constantly warned”- he did.
In the publication, Trump also stated that the penalties against companies “will be completely reversed” and predicted that “A substantial TARIFA” would be imposed on the EU “as soon as possible”.
