Oreviewers, ticket workers and CP heads will fulfill on 30 october a strike day for better working conditions, there are planned disturbances in the movement of trains, as the News to Minutes has already reported. The shutdown happens on the same day for which is marked a stoppage of workers of the Lisbon Metro.
“ Due to a strike called by the SFRCI union [Railway Union of the Itinerant Commercial Review], on October 30 [a Friday], it is expected disturbances in the circulation of trains, with possible impacts also on the day before and after“, CP-Comboios de Portugal reported in a statement published on its website.
The reasons for the strike
Contacted today by the agency Lusa, Luis Bravo of the SFRCI, said that the 24-hour strike aims to appreciation of work and “dignity of their living conditions“, aggravated by increased fuel, housing, essential food and rising gas and electricity prices.
According to the Union, “this reality has provoked a continuous loss of purchasing power and a degradation of the living conditions of railway families, making insufficient the wage valuations achieved so far to compensate for the general increase in the burden borne by workers”.
“ The increase in fuel is particularly serious for these workers because of working hours and because there is no transport at certain times. Workers have to move in their own cars. In some places they also have to pay parking ", told Lusa Luís Bravo.
In view of this reality, the Union calls for “the CP and the Government to take concrete and effective measures to recover lost purchasing power, to value railway workers and to ensure decent living conditions for those who ensure daily the functioning of a public service essential to the country”.
The workers claim the valuation of the travel/transport grant still during the year 2026, with retroactive effects to July, in order to compensate for the extraordinary increase in mobility costs.
They also claim the conclusion of negotiations on the valorisation of the work done on uncompensated rest days, the immediate publication of the Employment and Employment Bulletin (BTE) of all current wage and regulatory agreements and the urgent opening of negotiations for the review of the Business Agreement and the Career Regulation.
Workers also require the publication in BTE of wage increases achieved in 2025 and 2026 and the various bilateral agreements currently in force.
They also denounce that “the image and professionalism of its workers in the face of passengers and public opinion are being unfairly affected by the successive delays caused by problems in railway infrastructure”.
For this reason, the Union calls for “the adequacy of train schedules to real infrastructure conditions whenever significant delays occur systematically, avoiding the deterioration of the quality of service provided and the unfair exposure of workers to passengers”.
The Union also says that workers will ensure the provision, during the strike, of the services necessary for the safety and maintenance of equipment and installations in all aspects”.
CP – Comboios de Portugal informs that customers who already have tickets purchased to travel in Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Intercidades, Intercidades, InterCentral, InterRegional and Regional services can request a refund, in the total amount of the ticket purchased, or their free exchange to another train of the same category and in the same class.
The workers' strike will take place on one of the days when a partial strike is scheduled of the Metropolitan of Lisbon (ML), between 05:00 and 10:00.
