AND if levels of sun protection could be calculated by means of hydration levels? ? Nutritionists and dermatologists assure Eating Well that this already happens – there is a “solar drink protector” and he probably even has it at home.

Rich in catechins, particularly epigallocatequine gallate (EGCG), which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, o green tea, according to these experts can be an “intelligent addition to the skin care routine” and sun protection. However, bear in mind that this drink can never truly replace the sunscreen.

Investigations cited by the same source suggest that drinking green tea regularly can “help improve the performance of skin health by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation caused by exposure to ultraviolet rays”. However, according to nutritionist Vandana Sheth, this should not replace the application of sunscreen.

How does green tea work in UV protection?

“ Regular consumption of green tea catechins raises the skin threshold for UV-induced redness”, says physician Indy Chabra.

Other investigations suggest that ECG can help protect skin components, including elastin, from UV-related problems.

Imagine the natural process of aging – nothing can stop it – however, instead of doing surgical interventions, drinking green tea regularly, catechins, that is, specifically the ECG, “can help neutralize free radicals generated by exposure to UV rays and pollution” adds doctor Marisa Garshick.

Thus, by reducing visible oxidative stress, “it is also helping to slow down visible signs of skin aging,” says Garshick.

This phenomenon is explained by the fact that free radicals can damage collagen and elastin, proteins that help keep the skin firm and elastic. Thus, “by protecting collagen and elastin, you can have a younger skin and slow down the aging process,” adds Kormeili.
