After a prolonged summer and above normal temperatures for this time of year, the rain may return as early as next week. Temperatures should also record a “significant descent” during the weekend.

Dafter a long summer and a week with temperatures above normal for this time of year, behold, rain may return next week.
The forecast is made by Meteored Portugal which states that “the state of time in mainland Portugal should change over the next few days”.
According to “the European model (ECMWF) points to a thermal fall over the weekend, anticipating a potentially more unstable scenario next week.”.
Thus, “between Monday, October 19, and Sunday, day 25, the evolution of atmospheric circulation may favor the return of precipitation to various regions of the continental territory, especially from the middle of the week”.
The Meteored stresses, however, that “with a forecast several days away, the location and intensity of the rain may still change”.
It should also be noted that until the arrival of the rain, “Portugal continental should undergo a significant change”, i.e. Friday, October 16, “can be marked by values close to or above 30oC in some locations”, especially the Central and South regions.
But it will be ‘sun of little hard’, considering that, on the weekend, temperatures should start to drop ‘in much of the territory’. “The change will be particularly evident in some localities in the interior, where the difference in relation to Friday’s values may be significant,” he stresses.
The Meteored states, however, that “this descent does not necessarily mean that the whole country will have temperatures lower than usual for the time of year”.
This time, the forecast for Sunday, October 18, “points to temperatures considerably lower than those recorded on Friday, especially in some interior regions.”.
For example, in Vila Real, “the values can go from 26oC to 19oC”. In the Guard, thermometers can drop from 24oC to 15oC.
On the other hand, “Beja may record a decrease close to 10oC, from the 30oC scheduled for Friday to approximately 20oC on Sunday”. In Lisbon or Braga, the descent may not be as significant.
What about the rain?
However, Meteored Portugal indicates that “the evolution foreseen by ECMWF suggests an increase in instability over the next week”. For next Wednesday, the “ECMWF represents an extensive area of precipitation over the Atlantic, west of Portugal, with some cores affecting continental areas”.
Thus, “the expected atmospheric circulation may favor the approximation of areas of instability, increasing the possibility of rain occurrence in various areas of the Center and South”.
In short, “the forecast of the coming days points to two distinct phases”, that is, “a significant drop in temperature during the weekend and a possible return of rain in the middle of next week.
