Oceuta firefighters rated last night’s events as “a terrible night”.
According to the report released by the Spanish Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS), the fire in Tarajal, near the border with Morocco, hit “42 tents”.
Fire and emergency teams deployed to the area after 23:00 on Thursday (22:00 in Lisbon) took almost two hours to control the flames.
There were no injuries, but the families who slept at the scene were removed.
The fires also did not affect the housing of the residents of the area or public buildings, such as the Prince Felipe and Reina Sofía schools.
During the early hours there were fires that destroyed eight vehicles in various areas of the Spanish autonomous region of Ceuta, as well as four garbage containers.
The authorities have not yet informed us about the arson.
The crisis in Ceuta began in late July when in a few hours some 70,000 people from Morocco crossed the border.
