O locarno festival announced today the film projects that will be supported for development, under the parallel program “Open Doors”, and among them is “Chapa 100”, by Ique Langa, with production of Kulunga Filmes, which will receive 8,000 euros.

The synopsis states that the film tells the story of an 80-year-old flower salesman who meets a vegetable vendor in his 70s, starting a love story.

“Together they dream of a small piece of land where flowers and vegetables can grow side by side. Fate intervenes on the day they go to the bank to ask for a loan”, when they are robbed and the flower seller runs after it and is run over, then assuming contours of magical realism.

According to the publications Variety and Cineuropa, the project has 1.1 million euros of budget and will have Portuguese coproduction of Midas Filmes, by Pedro Borges.

Also under the program “Open Doors”, Angolan director Pocas Pascoal will receive support from the International Francophony Organization for the film “Sarah”, about filmmaker Sarah Maldor, pioneer in African cinema.

To Lusa, Pocas Pascoal had already explained earlier that this project intends to highlight Sarah Maldoror, who, in his cinema, looked at who was almost never seen, and also “these women that history did not speak or that history put in shadow”.

In addition to these projects, both Ique Langa and Pocas Pascoal presented their latest films in Locarno: the feature film “The Prophet” and the short film “Time to Change”, respectively.

In the “Open Doors”, the film “Submerged”, by Mozambican Ariel Añez, was contemplated with support for the dissemination by the organization African Film Press.

The Open Doors programme is a platform for co-production and development of talent from directors from communities, regions or countries that fight for equal rights and opportunities and where “artistic expression is at risk”.

Currently, Open Doors has a cycle of four editions dedicated to African countries.

The 79th edition of the Film Festival of Locarno, in which are present the films “The Alligator”, by Basil da Cunha, and “Warrilha do Asphalto”, by Edgar Pêra, ends on the 15th.
