A Iranian Navy indicated that the vessel concerned is the ‘Trend’ tanker, which was “intercepted and detained after burning” when attempting to cross “illegally” Ormuz.
On social networks, the force stated that the vessel attempted to cross “under instigation and deception of the U.S. Army” and threatened with “destruction” any ship that attempts to cross “illegally” the said passage.
Shortly before, the UK Maritime Operations Centre (UKMTO) had reported a “safety incident” in the waters of the strait, 16 nautical miles (about 30 kilometres) northeast of Khasab in Oman.
The body, linked to the British Navy, issued a “attack” alert, which did not make victims among the crew or caused “environmental impact”.
“ The authorities are investigating. Ships are recommended to transit with caution and inform UKMTO about any suspicious activity,” he added.
Since the beginning of the war in Iran, with attacks jointly launched by the United States and Israel on 28 February, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has already accounted for 80 attacks on international navigation in and around the Strait of Ormuz, resulting in the death of at least 22 sailors and many wounded, the person responsible has advanced.
In addition, attacks on the Red Sea were resumed and four deaths were confirmed in the latest Huthis attack on a merchant ship on August 11.
