Durgent at this meeting, Morocco, Israel and the United States “reconfirmed their commitment to a series of measures to strengthen relations between Israel and Morocco, including (...) the lifting of their diplomatic missions to embassy status, as well as the appointment of ambassadors”, highlighted Israeli diplomacy in a statement.
Morocco and Israel normalized their diplomatic relations in December 2020, under the Abraham Agreements, a process between Israel and several Arab countries supported by Washington.
In addition to appointing their respective ambassadors, Israel and Morocco have agreed to take steps to improve the already close ties they have maintained since the Abraham Agreements.
The Israeli and Moroccan authorities also undertook to finalise the investment protection and double taxation agreements by the end of 2026, to increase direct flights between the two countries and to carry out high-level visits in the coming months, according to the newspaper ‘Times of Israel’.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar highlighted the “heart and dedication” of Moroccan leaders during a meeting with their counterpart, Nasser Bourita, and the United States Permanent Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz.
“ The Abraham Agreements show that all barriers can be broken, that it is possible to choose a new path for all, of peace and collaboration between our countries. Morocco has a very special place in this vision. I want to thank you for the friendship and dedication to the reconstruction of friendship between Muslims and Jews”, he stressed.
Saar took the opportunity to express his “deep respect” to monarch Mohammed VI and to commend American President Donald Trump for his “determination to build a better future” in the Middle East.
