Aisrael's Defence Forces today claimed the elimination of a leader of the Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement in Gaza, where medical sources and civil protection accounted for seven deaths in attacks on the enclave.
An anonymous source of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital and the spokesperson for Gaza Civil Protection, who operates under the authority of Hamas, told AFP that two men were killed in Israeli attacks in al-Zawaida and Wadi Gaza.
An Israeli attack in the Jabalia region in the northern Gaza Strip caused the death of another person, according to Bassal and Al-Shifa Hospital. This hospital also reported receiving the body of a dead man in an attack in the district of Zeitoun, southeast of Gaza, without needing the circumstances of death.
An attack on an apartment in a residential building near Al-Shifa Hospital, in the al-Rimal district, in the west of Gaza, also victimized a man and a woman, according to Al-Shifa Hospital.
Nasser Hospital reported receiving the body of a teenager, allegedly killed by Israeli fire to the south of Khan Yunis in the south of Palestinian territory.
Later, the Israeli army reported in a statement that it killed “Akram Bassam Shaaban Yassin, a senior officer responsible for the general security mechanism of the Hamas terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip.”.
Consulted by the AFP, the Israeli army indicated that it is checking the remaining information released in the Hamas-controlled enclave areas.
Although Israel has reduced the intensity of its military operations, attacks on Gaza continue to occur almost daily.
On Monday, a Hamas terrorist — who participated in the kidnapping of Shani Louk during the massacre of October 7, 2023 — was eliminated in an attack in the Jabalia region.
The images of Shani Louk's body, a half-naked Israeli girl transported in the back of an open-box van next to Hamas' armed men, became a symbol of the atrocities committed by the Palestinian movement. His body was repatriated in May 2024.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who campaigned for his reelection in the legislative elections on 27 October, swore to continue to attack Hamas, despite the ceasefire that came into force just over a year ago and the release of the last live hostages captured by the group on 7 October.
The unprecedented attack by Hamas in 2023 on Israeli territory, involving thousands of operatives and a missile dam, resulted in the death of 1,221 people, according to an AFP investigation.
The offensive launched by Israel in Gaza, as reprisal, made more than 74,400 deaths, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, which does not distinguish between civilian victims and combatants.
