Ubut a 17-year-old was arrested today by the Ukrainian police on suspicion of poisoning Ukrainian soldiers at the behest of Russia, causing the death of two soldiers.
According to the investigators, the young woman mailed drugs containing lethal doses of methadone to soldiers she was in contact with through social networks, following instructions from the FSB, the Russian information service.
“ Following the guidance of a Russian supervisor, she packed the substances and mailed them, providing false information about the sender,” the Ukrainian National Police said.
The police communiqué added that for the service provided the young woman was promised the equivalent of about 100 euros.
The military target of the action was encouraged to consume the substances in front of a chamber.
According to the police, two soldiers died in the Zhytomyr region west of Kiev, and the authorities avoided the death of four other military personnel.
Arrested in the same region, the young woman can face a sentence of 15 years in prison for complicity in premeditated murder committed by an organized group, in addition to trafficking in illicit substances.
“ Do not accept medicines or other substances, food or beverages of doubtful origin, from people you do not know,” he warned the police.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022, the Ukrainian authorities have opened thousands of investigations in collaboration with Russia and have frequently announced the arrest of individuals suspected of working in Moscow.
In 2023, Kiev authorities accused Russia of poisoning Kyrylo Budanov's wife, then head of Ukraine's military intelligence services and, today, adviser to the Presidency.
