O Banco Português de Fomento (BPF) had a profit of 8.1 million euros by September, an increase of 54% in homologous terms and a value that has already exceeded the total result of 2025.
The institution announced today that in the first nine months of this year, the sovereign bank had a net result of more than EUR 7.8 million accumulated in 2025.
The BPF notes that this figure is “almost twice the budget for the quarter”, estimated at EUR 4.3 million, and “already meets 76% of the budget of 2026”.
At the same time, the return on equity, represented by the ROE, rose to 1.9%, as against 1.2% at the same date as 2025.
In presenting the results, at Unicorn Factory, in Lisbon, the financial administrator of BPF, Miguel Alves, signaled that net results are important to show business solidity, but that “the metric and the focus are entrepreneurs and companies”.
“ The metric of success is the impact generated in companies”, he stressed.
“ We have more risk in the balance sheet today, that was our purpose, we did not want to have a management company, we wanted to have a bank that puts its balance sheet at the service of the economy and therefore the impairments will follow this growth ", he stressed.
In the presentation of the results, a balance sheet of the companies supported between 2023 and 2026, which totaled 19,857 and represented a Gross Added Value (VAB) of EUR 19,800 million in 2025 (about 12% of the total).
On the other hand, the banking product has advanced 65% in homologous terms to EUR 38 million, while equity has risen by some EUR 20 million to EUR 612 million.
As for the net asset, it increased 2.3 times compared to the one year earlier, to EUR 1,598 million, in a variation mainly attributed to the extraordinary contribution received under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and intended for the IFI.
Miguel Alves pointed out that there should be a “relevant increase in capital” already agreed with the State this year.
The bank’s executive president, Gonçalo Regalado, stated that the increase this year should be EUR 150 million and EUR 450 million “in each of the years 2027, 2028 and 2029”.
On the Finance side, this value has been made available “for several months”, but it is still awaiting the authorisation of the European Commission and the following approval from Banco de Portugal (BdP).
