O Brazilian President, Lula da Silva, today issued an open letter to evangelical families seeking support, while his opponent in the presidential, Flávio Bolsonaro, reinforced his presence in Rio Grande do Sul, a penonarist stronghold.
In the document “Letter of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the Brazilian Evangelical Families, released by the Evangelical Front by the rule of law, Lula suggests to evangelicals that they ask “discern to God” to vote.
Lula, who faces resistance from much of the voters of this religious confession, says in the letter that he is a Christian, who respects all religions, cites family values, mentions God and uses various expressions of faith in an attempt to approach the evangelicals.
A Quaest poll released on September 28 showed Flávio Bolsonaro with 46% of the voting intentions among the evangelicals in the first round, and Lula, the Workers Party candidate (PT), with 27%.
Evangelicals and Catholics account for 79% of the Brazilian population aged 16 years or older, 50% of whom declare themselves Catholics and 29% evangelicals, according to a recent survey by the Institute of Studies of Religion (ISER), in partnership with Quaest.
“I came here with divine protection, guided by a purpose and mission. I am absolutely sure that if it weren’t for God’s good hand, I wouldn’t have come out alive from the various battles I faced,” Lula wrote.
“ Guided by I am here, once again, defending Brazilian families with concrete actions, as I have done throughout my political journey, and not with empty speeches, as many others do. Families are the base of Brazil we want ", highlighted.
Still in the letter, Lula exalted some achievements of his management that “bless” evangelical families and listed the ban and combat online gambling, initiatives to protect women, combat violence and organized crime, and also refers to the Proposal for Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of the reduction of the working day, to be voted today in the Brazilian Senate.
“ People need more time to rest, have leisure and be home with their own, strengthening family ties. For the evangelical people, this guarantees even more time to be in church in communion with the brothers and in worship ", completed.
Senator and eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro used social media to iron out his opponent’s letter in the race for President of Brazil to evangelical families, and wrote: “Lula writes for evangelicals and says: ‘I am not Lula!’”.
Flávio spoke at a rally in Rio Grande do Sul, next to the governor elected by the Liberal Party (PL), Luciano Zucco, to strengthen the presence in the penitentiary stronghold before the second round of elections, scheduled for day 25.
As it had 2.2 million more votes than Lula in the first round across Brazil, the goal of the agenda is not to demobilize supporters and avoid the climate of “already won”, given the intensification of marches and large rallies held by the left throughout the country in recent days.
In addition to the rally, Flávio will also have a meeting with entrepreneurs and leaders of the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Fiergs).
Also on social networks, the presidential candidate of the PL backed down and announced today that he will go to the debate organized by TV Band next Sunday where he promises to “sweep the truth” in the face of the opponent.
