Cerca of 50 professionals of the PSP and GNR today manifested themselves in Funchal, in the context of a national protest, to demand better wages and the valorization of careers.
“ The motivation of the protest is related to the agreement that the professionals of PSP and GNR signed with the Government about two and a half years ago, which contemplated the increase of a valuation of the risk subsidy and also had the review of the remuneration tables and the evaluation ordinance ", explained Miguel Neto, vice-president of the Trade Union Association of Police Professionals (ASPP/PSP).
The trade union leader stressed that since the signing of the agreement only the part relating to the risk allowance has been fulfilled.
The demonstration, which took place in Praça do Município, in the center of the Madeiran capital, was convened by ASPP/PSP and the Association of Guard Professionals (APG/GNR), also with the presence of elements of the Prison Guard Corps.
“ At the moment, we are doing some decentralised actions, today in Funchal, to show the common population, the mayors, the traders, the problems that affect us ", explained Miguel Neto.
Before the concentration, the union leader met with the mayor of Funchal (PSD/CDS-PP), the social democrat Jorge Carvalho, who, he said, expressed solidarity with the professionals of the security forces.
“ We appreciated the President’s recognition of our demands, which he considers more than just,” he said.
Miguel Neto considered, on the other hand, that the aim of the demonstration was not to “put many people in the same place”, but rather to draw attention to the problems of professionals, as has already occurred in several cities of the country.
“The goal is precisely to speak to the mayors. The mayors have to be on our side, because our concerns are not only a matter of rewarding appreciation, they are a question of lack of attractiveness [for the career] in the PSP and lack of effective ", sustained.
On the part of the Guard Professionals Association, the leader José Segura stressed that the demands are common to the two forces, considering that, in the case of GNR, the remuneration table that has not been reviewed since 2009.
“ I think it is time for the government to look at this detail,” he warned.
The demonstration took place under the motto “For a safe Portugal for all” and also had the presence of elements of the Aquixa/Madeira, party that placed two posters in Praça do Municipal hours before the concentration, highlighting that “the risk supplement remains to be paid” and that “the dignity and respect for security forces are missing”.
The organizations that called for the demonstration were marked by this initiative.
