Uthe fisherman spent eight days drifting at sea, more than 480 kilometers off the coast off Oaxaca, Mexico, before being rescued alive by members of the Navy.

Héctor Márquez Martínez, known as ‘Chico’, disappeared after going fishing in Puerto Ángel. He had sailed aboard his little boat, the Josmarcito, and the forecast was that he would return in a few hours, but that did not happen.

The man was on the small boat, no water or food when he was sighted. Operations were initiated on 31 August after the authorities received the warning that the fishing boat was late.

Naval and air units were sent, including the coast guard, a speedboat and patrol aircraft. Also called members of the marine search and rescue teams, says the Navy in notified.

Several search patterns were made in that area, they also reported, and maintained efforts for several days. Finally, during the operations, the ARM Monte Albán vessel “located the small vessel and carried out the maneuvers necessary to rescue the fisherman, who was safely transferred to the ship,” can be read.

Already on board the frigate was submitted to medical evaluation – determined that it was well and just dehydrated.
