A Câmara do Porto decided to close the commercial part of the event, which brings together 144 ‘stands’ with editors, booksellers and other brands, “due to weather conditions”, especially the heavy rain that is felt in the city morning and afternoon today.
The parallel activities were “reprogrammed, within the availability and adequacy of space”, for the library, also in the gardens, with lateral access, at the entrance of conditioned mobility, at Rua de Manuel II.
Asked by Lusa, the House of Oporto said that it keeps the plans to open the ‘stands’ every day, “except if the weather conditions found discourage it”.
On Sunday, the municipality noticed that around 41,000 visitors passed the fair in the first two days, in the case Friday and Saturday, more 7,000 than in the homologous period of 2025.
The growth was recorded on the first day, with the Port Book Fair receiving, on Friday, almost “3 thousand more visitors than on the first day of the edition of 2025” while on Saturday, the number of visitors was higher in “practically 4,000” compared to the second day of the previous edition, it is also read.
The 13th Port Book Fair, which takes place in the Gardens of the Crystal Palace, integrates more than 200 initiatives spread over 144 ‘stands’, taking place until September 6 and honoring the Portuguese poet Inês Lourenço.
A total of 13 districts of mainland Portugal are today since 09:00 under yellow warning for the risk of sometimes strong and thunderous showers, said the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
In a statement, the IPMA announced the yellow warning for the districts of Aveiro, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu.
In addition to strong showers, thunderstorm warnings also include cases of “locally strong precipitation, with accumulation between 10 and 20 mm in an hour” and gusts of wind up to 70 km per hour, says IPMA.
In the forecast, the IPMA anticipates “waterers, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunder between mid-morning and mid-afternoon,” with “wind of the southern quadrant, sometimes strong”.
These climate changes are related to a depression in the northeast of the Azores, associated with a frontal surface moving to the southeast, which approached the continent.
The institute expects the state of time to remain unstable for the rest of the week, with precipitation in the North and Center regions.
