“ A priority is the electrification of the territory exactly because we have half of the Angolans without access, with the expectation of having ", said the ruler, in an interview with TPA, the public television of Angola.
The minister assured that “all public investment is directed to cover these needs”.
“ Our effort, our activity and public investment are directed to the electrification of our country, [to] meet the needs of our populations,” he said.
João Baptista Borges stressed that the country cannot, however, waste “an advantage” in current energy production.
“The country must be able to transform the production capacity surplus that it has and can meet other needs not only in the electric sector but in other sectors of social life,” he said.
The export of this energy, considered, “can bring this advantage to the country, fully secured by private investment, that is, the construction of the lines, the operation of these lines by the private sector.”.
“Tomorrow (in the future) these interconnections that we project for Namibia, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo [DRCongo] may be a road, also in the opposite direction. Today we have a surplus, tomorrow we can have a deficit and one of those countries to which we are linked, may also have the possibility of selling, of exporting energy to our country,” he said.
The Minister stressed that this is how the regional energy market will be created.
“ We are in Central Africa and Southern Africa, these energy pools will then work based on this export and import of energy,” he added.
