Miguel Barros marks 40 years of career dedicated to painting this year. To mark this remarkable achievement, the exhibition “AZULTEJO” will be patented between 15 and 29 September, at the MAC Contemporary Art Movement in Lisbon.
In this exhibition, which is born four decades after his first exhibition, the artist presents a work that is born of memory, distance and lasting connection to Lisbon.
“AZULTEJO” brings together 29 works in which the public is invited to go through a Lisbon made of light, color and longing.
Miguel Barros, who has been an immigrant in Canada for almost 20 years, continues to have the Portuguese capital as one of his inspirations. This exhibition intends, therefore, to be a place “where distance is transformed into proximity and where the blue of the Tagus, the sky and the Lisbon facades assumes the role of the guiding thread of a deeply personal narrative”.
“ The visitor is invited to walk through the streets that stretch like brushstrokes, to climb the steps of Lisbon, to get lost in the alleys, to cross the arches and to let the look reach the viewpoints, where the Tagus opens before him. On each wall, on every door and in every fragment of a city, you will find traces of a Lisbon that time and distance could not erase. But this is not a Lisbon simply portrayed. It is a Lisbon felt from a distance”, reads in a statement sent to News to Minutes, where it is added, too, that more than a celebration, this will be a journey through the memory of an emigrant artist and a declaration of love to a city that never stopped taking with it.
The exhibition is curated by Álvaro Lobato de Faria and can be visited between Monday and Friday, from 15h to 19h and Saturdays from 3pm to 7pm.
