Miguel Vieira reveals that cancer hit the ribs: “He took my floor”

O portuguese designer Miguel Vieira faces another challenge related to his health. After two months of surgery to her third cancer, where she removed half of her left lung, severe pain continued. After one more examination, doctors found that cancer cells “had doubled” and were “housed in the ribs, eating the bone”. 

After the new diagnosis, the doctors readjusted the treatment and Miguel Vieira is now hopeful, although admits that “it is not Superman”. 

“It was four months of suffocating uncertainty since the diagnosis of cancer in the left lung, and two months since the surgery that took me the tumor and half the lung. But the worst... the worst was the daily pain, unbearable, a suffering that seemed to have no end, no response. Last week, the PET scan brought the truth.

The news that took my floor: the cancer cells in the pleura (membrane surrounding the lungs) had doubled in size and were lodged in my ribs, corroding the bone. That's where
came part of that horrible pain”started by telling the artist.

With this news, Miguel Vieira admits that “wept and cried again”. “I always think I’m Superman but I found out I’m not. But we finally knew what we were fighting. Knowing the source of pain allowed the IPO team to change the course of combat. Adjust the cocktail of chemotherapy and schedule an emergency radiotherapy to stop this battle bone to bone. The crying is over. Sadness gave way to Claw. Now I cling with all my strength to what I like to do,” added the designer. 

For now, the designer is dedicated to preparing the parade for Milan Fashion Week, which helps him face these most challenging moments. “Close Milan fashion week on the women’s calendar is a landmark for Portugal, a dream and a giant responsibility that I carry on my chest with immense pride. Raising takes away my pain and occupies my head. I live on a roller coaster of emotion. I'm afraid, I feel pain, but above all, I feel an overwhelming love. I look around and see friends from the four corners of the world, from all beliefs and religions, united in a single chain of prayer and affection for me”, he said.

At the end of the sharing, Miguel Vieira thanks all the people he has met on his way. “What a profound blessing it is to perceive the bridges of affection I have built throughout life. To the extraordinary IPO team, my friends and my family, my staff, your embrace, your care and your faith are the most beautiful cure. You are undoubtedly the best medication there is.
