Maria da Graça Carvalho was heard today in the Eventual parliamentary committee for National Resilience, Prevention of Natural Catastrophes and Monitoring of the PTRR – Portugal, Transformation, Recovery and Resilience, where it took stock of the impact caused by bad weather and adopted responses.
“ The geostrategic situation is complex and we never know when we will have to deal with other forces from other countries, which will cause us problems. The more we are independent in water and energy the better we are”, pointed out the ruler in response to deputies after the second round of interventions.
As far as water is concerned, the holder of the Environment and Energy folder has advocated a balance between the one that is retained and the one that is not, explaining that too much retention also causes problems, such as lack of sand on the beaches or excess salinisation.
“ It is necessary to be very careful with the interference that is made in nature ", vincou.
As far as electricity and energy are concerned, the minister said that Portugal is already very independent in terms of renewables and that it now needs to move on to liquid fuels for transport.
The objective, as pointed out, is to electrify what is possible, but also to produce renewable fuels.
“ We have to be more independent because one day we wake up and prices go up or there are no fuels.”he insisted.
