“ A award of projects later this year for the intervention in the port [of Nazaré], which is scheduled for next June until 2029, are essential investments, but should be complemented with dredgings that are absolutely necessary ", said José Manuel Fernandes.
In statements to the Lusa agency in Nazareth, where he visited the fishing port today, the minister highlighted the importance of an investment of three million euros that will requalify the auction and, another, of the same value, to repair the two jets of the port.
“ It is very important the safety of ports, it is essential in the investment that will advance and that is now planned the advance of the project ", said, at the end of a meeting with the mayor, entrepreneurs and local fishermen.
In his visit, José Manuel Fernandes also defended the need to debureaucratize the processes in the area of fisheries, arguing that the bureaucracy “is an enemy of investment and often of the environment itself and of the objectives to which it is proposed”.
The areas it protects – agriculture and fisheries – need “celerity and investment,” he said, recalling that “fishing is much more than numbers and its weight in national GDP (Gross Domestic Product), because it is tradition, heritage, territorial cohesion”.
“ We are one government and one state, and therefore the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services, the Docapesca (port management), the Portuguese Environment Agency and the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests are institutions that have to work together, quickly and should also agree on opinions and objectives”, so that, he said, “there is not an institution that says it should be in one way, and another to contradict it that must be in another”.
In the route of the minister, in the municipality of Nazaré, in the district of Leiria, there was also a visit to the project of Regadio da Cela, where an investment of 1.7 million euros is underway and, according to the ruler, another competition of 1.3 million euros was approved, in the process of concluding opinions to be able to advance.
