ANDm note of repudiation, the third Mozambican parliamentary force expressed “deep pain, indignation and revolt” for the murder of Pesado Alfinete, retired brigadier and former party fighter, described by political formation as a militant who devoted part of his life to the struggle for democracy in Mozambique.
“The Heavy Brigadier was a companion who dedicated part of his life to Renamo and the struggle for the building of democracy and political pluralism in Mozambique,” he says.
That political formation considers that death is “an irreparable loss for the family, for their companions and for the party” and argues that those responsible for the crime must be brought to justice: “The material perpetrators of this murder must be identified and held accountable, and any possible perpetrator or motive associated with the crime must also be established.”.
The party also criticizes the lack of clarification of some violent crimes in the country, claiming not to want “more investigations that end without answers”.
“We do not want the murder of a citizen, much less a leader or member of a political force, to be treated as a banal occurrence,” he adds.
Political formation, led by Ossufo Momade, maintains that violence “can never replace political debate”, arguing that differences must be resolved “through ideas, dialogue, democratic institutions and voting, never through bullets”.
While not attributing responsibility for the crime, Renamo framed the case in a broader speech about alleged political violence in the country, disclosing an image with the words “just murder of political opponents” and “political crimes require justice.”.
Meanwhile, in a publication on its official Facebook page, Renamo called the media for an official statement this afternoon.
Renamo's complaint arises days after the National Alliance for a Free and Autonomous Mozambique (Anamola), party founded by the former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, denounced the murder of at least 57 of its members since the creation of political formation in August 2025.
The most recent case pointed out by the party was that of Morrumbene district mobilizer in Inhambane province, Ilídio Facitela Gustavo, allegedly kidnapped and killed on September 12.
On the very day of the crime, Venâncio Mondlane stated that the victim was on the list of witnesses he intended to file in the court case Supreme in relation to protests against the results of the presidential elections of October 9, 2024.
The protests, which lasted for about five months, caused more than 400 deaths, most in clashes with the police, as well as episodes of violence and looting public and private infrastructure.
