O MotoGP World Championship continues this weekend (23-25 october), with the Australia GP phillip Island. At five rounds of the end, the emotions are strong, with the first two classifieds separated by two points.
Jorge Martín at the top, three strong candidates for the title
Jorge Martín (Aprilia) is in a series of three consecutive podiums of the nine that it already threatened in 2026, leading the championship with two more points than Marc Márquez.
The veteran of Ducati, who has celebrated six triumphs, did not exceed the sixth position in the previous round in Indonesia, which cost him command. The victory in this race was from Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), who is third to 46 points from the front – so, despite not being so well positioned, also dreams of the title. In Mandalika, he returned to the triumphs that had escaped since March.
These three are not the only mathematical pilots in the title fight, when there are still 185 points to be attributed: up to the eighth ranked, Álex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) can still exceed Jorge Martín's score.
But the 96 points that separate Ai Ogura (Trackhouse/Aprilia) from the leader make them three pilots with more realistic possibilities to take the title at the end of the season.
Champions looking for better days
This is not the year of two of MotoGP's world champions on the grill. The one from 2022 and 2023, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), in ninth, is already away from the title and still seeks the first triumph of the year in a main race to avoid the first season to zeros in triumphs since 2020.
On the other hand, Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) goes through his worst season ever on MotoGP and is currently 14th with a fifth rank being the best result. The champion of 2021 has the same points as the rookie Diogo Moreira (Honda LCR). Still, the Frenchman is the best pilot of the forerunner.
Phillip Island says goodbye to MotoGP
This will be the last time the Australia MotoGP GP takes place on the Phillip Island circuit before heading to Adelaide in 2027.
The permanent layout, located on the homonymous island, entered the championship precisely 30 years ago and is one of the most peculiar due to the design and weather conditions – which often put the wind as one of the riders' rivals.
The track has 12 turns and a turn extends for 4,448 km. The best lap ever was established by Fabio Quartararo in last year's qualification in 1m26,465 seconds, while the best lap in race belongs to Marc Márquez since 2024 (1m27,765 seconds).
